چکیده

The purpose of this study was to assess the suitability Romanian Albanus hybrid Sorghum bicolor as a potential functional food ingredient. Ultrasound-assisted extraction in different solvents, together with spectrophotometric and chromatographic methods, used monitor variation total phenolic flavonoid content antioxidant activity raw sorghum grains before during short germination periods (24, 36 48 h). High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Diode-Array Detection (HPLC-DAD) investigation extracts revealed that ungerminated extracted methanol had highest diversity compounds, while (TPC) after h both extract types: 1853 mg GAE/100 g for methanolic 1726 ethanolic extract. findings showed TPC is strongly correlated their and, overall, studied presented good radical scavenger activity, which supports benefits alimentary uses grains.

Screening methods to measure antioxidant activity of sorghum (sorghum bicolor) and sorghum products.

Specialty sorghums, their brans, and baked and extruded products were analyzed for antioxidant activity using three methods: oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), 2,2'-azinobis (3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). All sorghum samples were also analyzed for phenolic contents. Both ABTS and DPPH correlated highly with ORAC (R(2) = 0.99 a...

HPLC-DAD Phenolic Characterization and Antioxidant Activities of Ripe and Unripe Sweet Orange Peels.

Phenolic compounds of unripe and ripe sweet orange peels were determined using a high-performance liquid chromatography separation method with diode array detector (HPLC-DAD). The in vitro antioxidant properties and the EC50 (concentration required to obtain a 50% antioxidant effect) values were also determined. The predominant phenolic compounds were quercitrin, rutin, and quercetin with value...

Evaluation of the effect of germination on phenolic compounds and antioxidant activities in sorghum varieties.

The screening of 50 sorghum varieties showed that, on average, germination did not affect the content in total phenolic compounds but decreased the content of proanthocyanidins, 3-deoxyanthocyanidins, and flavan-4-ols. Independent of germination, there are intervarietal differences in antioxidant activities among sorghum varieties. Phenolic compounds and antioxidant activities were more positiv...

Effect of plant growth hormones and abiotic stresses on germination, growth and phosphatase activities in Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench seeds

Phosphatases are widely found in plants having intracellular and extracellular activities. Phosphatases are believed to be important for phosphorous scavenging and remobilization in plants, but its role in adaptation to abiotic stresses and growth hormones at germination level has not been critically evaluated. To address this issue, the effect of ABA, GA3, NaCl and drought on germination, grow...

Seed germination and seedling growth of three sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) genotypes as affected by low temperatures

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) originated in the semi-arid tropics and generally is sensitive to low-temperature stress. Chilling stresses include low temperature (below 20 °C) and freezing injury (below 0 °C). In this study seed germination and seedling growth of three sorghum genotypes (KFS1, KFS2 and Speedfeed) were examined under four temperature regimes (35/15, 20/10, 13/10 and 11/8) conditi...
